Strathcona County imposes fines, removes vehicles from road for safety reasons

In October, a safety operation in Strathcona County took 40 vehicles off the road for violating various requirements.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspected 66 commercial vehicles between October 8 and 10. Only 17 percent passed the inspection, the county said in a news release Monday.

“Hundreds of commercial vehicles use county roads every day, so their compliance with commercial vehicle requirements is vital to the safety of our roads and everyone who uses them,” said Vito DiSciglio, Enforcement Services Manager.

CVSA officers sought various safety requirements, including tire inflation, cargo security, a valid driver’s license, emergency exits and proper lighting.

Drivers who fail the inspection are required to make repairs and pay any fines. Fines can range from $324 up to a seizure to check if the vehicle can be driven safely.

“We don’t do inspections just to issue fines,” DiSciglio said.

“By identifying issues before they become problems, we can prevent potential accidents and help keep everyone on our roads safe.” »
