Mixology at home – Presidential cocktails

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Is this political campaign season crazy enough to drive you to drink? On Mixology at Home we have some recipes you might be interested in voting on.

So we have two choices: a red drink for former President Donald J. Trump and a blue cocktail for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Red drink – Ingredients:

  • 1 ¼ ounces of vodka
  • ¾ oz lemon absolute
  • 2 oz sour mix
  • 1 dash of strawberry syrup
  • Red sugar for the edge of the glass
  • Edible gold glitter for decoration
  • Lemon zest

Instructions:

Add one and a quarter ounces of vodka, three-quarters of an ounce of Absolute Citron, two ounces of sour mix and a little strawberry syrup to a martini glass rimmed with red sugar, red representing the Republican Party. A few gold flakes to finish the drink, with a lemon zest.

Blue Donkey – Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz light rum
  • 1 ounce blue curacao
  • A little lime juice
  • Blue sugar for glass edge
  • Lemon-lime soda
  • Garnish with a slice of lime

Instructions:

Add one and a half ounces of light rum, one ounce of blue curaçao and the juice of one lime, shaken and strained into a highball glass filled with ice and rimmed with blue sugar. Top it off with lemon-lime soda and garnish with a slice of lime.

How someone votes in an election is and should always be private. But we can vote on the best cocktail to sip on election night on November 5.
