The City of Edmonton often asks people to call 311 to report potholes or parking violations, but the service can do much more for residents and visitors.

311 is the non-emergency contact for city government information and services, to report complaints such as vehicles blocking access or obtain information about bus routes.

It responds to about 900,000 requests per year, according to the city.

During the past 12 months, here are the five most common requests:

  • Transit (routes and schedules) – 75,312;
  • Recreation and recreation centers (general information) – 67,314;
  • Parking enforcement (complaints relating to public parking): 52,711;
  • Waste (collection and disposal services) – 47,068;
  • Tax (monthly payment plan) – 40,836.

Potholes, noise, and parking complaints are three issues people might think about, but others may reported to 311 include:

  • Coyote sightings;
  • Disposal of dead animals;
  • The lights on the decorative trees are turned off;
  • Edmonton transit buses late;
  • Missed garbage collection;
  • Synchronization of traffic lights.

The city breaks down demand data by neighborhoods and neighborhoods.

The service also has a website and a application. They include information such as public transportation routes and schedules, recreation center and pool information, and property tax estimates.

Some services available in the city do not fall under 311, such as Epcor, Transit Watch and ARC Transit.

311 is available every day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., except on public holidays. For those out of town, the number is 780-442-5311.

“If you have urgent regulatory issues or public safety concerns outside of normal hours, call 311 and choose from the available options,” the city wrote on its website.

Non-English speakers can request assistance from an interpreter when calling. The city offers interpretation services in more than 180 languages.

Teleprinter Service is available by dialing 711 on a TTY and typing 780-442-5311 to be connected to 311 services.
