Report: Canucks’ Dakota Joshua could make season debut Thursday

Dakota Joshua could make his season debut sooner rather than later. After Tuesday’s practice, Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet revealed that Dakota Joshua could be an option on Thursday when the Canucks take on the Los Angeles Kings. Joshua has been out since training camp while recovering from offseason surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.

Now in his third year with the organization, Joshua has become a key part of the roster. Last season, he set new career highs with 18 goals and 245 hits. Joshua also developed tremendous chemistry with Conor Garland, helping create what was arguably the best third line in the NHL during the 2023-24 season.

During the offseason, the Canucks rewarded Joshua for his strong play by signing him to a four-year contract worth $13 million. He not only made an impact during the regular season, but also during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, recording eight points and 74 hits in 13 games. Joshua has also won the team’s Unsung Hero award for the past two years, which is voted on by fans.

As for Joshua’s place in the lineup, one spot could be next to Garland and Elias Pettersson. With the chemistry formed by Garland and Pettersson, Joshua could slide into the left wing and help balance the top six. Once he returns, Joshua will have a significant impact on this roster and should help Vancouver create one of the deepest forward groups on the line.
