Letter: Former Mayor Derek Corrigan cleaned up Burnaby Lake. It should bear his name

The former Burnaby resident and Corrigan classmate believes it’s time to inscribe his name in bronze somewhere in the city.

The editor:

Derek Corrigan should hold a special place as a longtime Burnaby politician.

Corrigan, during his school years, was a rugby player and played well at scrum. It was truly a school of hard knocks at Charles Tupper. He demonstrated leadership on and off the field.

I sat next to him in 11th grade in the homeroom. He can still hit hard at Burnaby city hall. I never lost touch.

We saw each other again when he had cleaned Burnaby Lake by dredging it.

Again, I recommended rebuilding the streetcar now in Burnaby Village Park.

After looking at The Tram book about this intercity car, it occurred to me that this car ran on the Burnaby Lake line from Vancouver to Sapperton in New Westminster.

I suggest we name Burnaby Lake, Corrigan Lake, after the work done at the high school coincidentally.
