A woman was rescued last week after disappearing in an Oregon forest while foraging for mushrooms.

On Tuesday, October 29, Mandy Greer, 43, went to a “wilderness area” near the coastal town of Reedsport to pick mushrooms with her partner, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. said in an October 31 press release on Facebook.

The couple left in the afternoon and planned to only go out for “a few hours,” but Greer disappeared after they separated in the forest.

The sheriff’s office said Greer’s partner contacted 911 after she did not return to their vehicle as they had previously discussed.

Deputies and local search and rescue teams “spent several hours searching for Greer” on Oct. 29, using multiple search efforts including “ground, fixed-wing aircraft and drone.”

According to the sheriff’s office, a drone operator “identified potential heat signatures,” but searchers were still unable to locate Greer.

Crews paused their search efforts “early morning” on Wednesday, Oct. 30, but resumed them around 7 a.m. local time with assistance from the county Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit by Jackson.

Greer then made “voice contact” with a deputy around 9:15 a.m., about two hours later.

Authorities said Greer was cold and wet when he recovered and his life was not in danger. She also needed help getting out of the forest.

“Rescuers provided first aid, food and hot tea before assisting Greer on the road where she was transferred to the care of EMS providers,” the post read.

On Friday, November 1, Greer thanked officials for helping her, commenting on the Facebook post: “I was so lucky to be found by such a wonderful and lively group,” she wrote . “I will be forever grateful.”
