Ideal replacement for Saints’ Dennis Allen is also in the hot seat, not a returning local hero

Dennis Allen had to leave. He’s a great defensive mind and should find work fairly easily this offseason as defensive coordinator. Allen made the most of his opportunity for a second time NFL head coach, but there is a good chance he will never hold that title again during his coaching career. Promoting Allen from within after Sean Payton’s abrupt “retirement” made sense at the time, but a lot of time has passed.

THE New Orleans Saints are now the second NFL team to be led by an interim head coach for the rest of the way, joining the equally pitiful New York Jets. Although Gang Green has an intriguing roster in some areas, Mickey Loomis has been kicking things off for quite a long time. New Orleans needs a complete rebuild. There is the right head coach to bring them back to prominence.

I would say that once the Cleveland Browns stupidly fire their head coach Kevin Stefanski and he immediately becomes the top candidate for the Saints gig. Since he comes from the same coaching tree as offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, I would venture a guess that the best part of his team would be retained. Derek Carr isn’t great anymore, but he’s better than what’s in Cleveland.

I’ll also go out on a limb and say that if the Saints hired Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, this could prove disastrous. It doesn’t matter that he had success this year at Orchard Park, nor that he was really good at calling offensive plays on the 2019 LSU staff. Don’t you remember how ill-equipped we were at point guard? game when he was in division on the Carolina Panthers?

Brady may one day be a great NFL head coach, but a guy who has seen things is preferred here.

Again, I may be wrong. The Saints may not be interested in hiring either. Stefanski may not become available and Brady may not want to come back to work for this team at this time. There’s also a chance that Brady is the best thing to happen to New Orleans since Sean Payton. I just feel like a fan of their biggest rival. What a hire would bring Atlanta Falcons Do fans feel uncomfortable?

Stefanski has already done something I didn’t think was possible, which was making the playoffs multiple times in one tenure as head coach of the Browns. Not only that, but he won a playoff game with that franchise, the only one to date since the Baltimore Ravens existed. Brady may be a great head coach across the board, but he needs to go somewhere that doesn’t require a complete, all-out rebuild.

I would expect Allen’s successor to be given the green light for the Saints to draft their first quarterback in the first round since Archie Manning. Yes, it’s been that long. Once this team gains a new identity, the Saints can start competing again in the same division that the Falcons are starting to run away with. Atlanta could totally lose on the road to New Orleans next week because it’s Atlanta.

Right now, I would consider hiring someone like Stefanski or Mike Vrabel over an entry-level coach.
