Former staffer claims Harry and Meghan’s move to Portugal is linked to how their lives in the US went

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry And Meghan Marklereportedly sought a new home in Portugal, as life in the United States was not “what they thought it would be.”

According to former palace aide Grant Harrold, the move could hint at the duo’s plans to reconnect with the royal family, bringing them closer to the UK.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s decision to buy a house in Portugal is also linked to his close ties with his cousin, Princess Eugenie.

Harry and Meghan reportedly invested in property at CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, a luxurious 722-acre community located about 81 miles from Lisbon.

The area’s development is expected to include approximately 300 residences, and the couple reportedly spent more than $4.7 million on one of those soon-to-be-built homes.

Regarding why they are looking for a new home in Portugal, former palace aide Harold said the Sussexes were re-evaluating their life in the United States, which didn’t work out the way they hoped.

Harrold, who served as King Charles’ personal butler, believes this European move rumor hints that Harry and Meghan could be “heading back to the UK.”

In an interview with the New York PostHarrold explained: “Their life in the United States – there are so many people moving away and coming back, so I don’t think there would be anything unusual about Harry and Meghan leaving the United States- United for Europe.”

He added: “But maybe living in the US wasn’t what they thought it would be, and maybe that’s why they’re now expected to head back to the UK.”

Harrold previously suggested to the publication that the couple’s potential move to Portugal could indicate a desire to reconnect with the royal family.

He explained: “It’s been quiet for quite a while, which is a good sign, so I think any move to Europe – even if it’s not the UK, Portugal isn’t that far – could mean it’s easier for Harry to spend more time at home in the UK and it’s quite possible it’s a sign he’s getting closer to his family again.”

Harrold also stressed that “there is no obvious reason to choose Portugal as a place of residence”, adding: “But let’s not forget that it is not unusual for members of the royal family to settle abroad.

“Some have historically moved to France. Princess Margaret spent a lot of time in Mauritius, so Harry would follow in the footsteps of other royals who have done something similar,” he concluded.

Although the exact reasons for Harry and Meghan’s choice of Portugal remain unclear, their personal relationships likely played a role.

CostaTerra, the development in which they reportedly purchased a home, is owned by Discovery Land Company, founded by Mike Meldman. Meldman, along with George Clooney, was co-founder of Casamigos, the billion-dollar tequila brand.

The Sussexes also have a family connection to Discovery Land Company, as Princess Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank, works in its marketing and sales division.

Harrold speculates that members of the royal family could travel to Portugal to see the couple in their new home.

“I suppose all the younger royals would love to go to Portugal to visit them if they move, so I imagine we’d see some of the family visit Harry and Meghan – as well as a few of their famous friends without a doubt,” he shared.

Portugal’s climate, similar to that of Montecito, California, may also have been a factor in the couple’s decision.

Before settling in Portugal, Harry and Meghan first face a daunting challenge: obtaining European Union citizenship, which would give them the freedom to travel across the 29-year-old Schengen area. country.

Meanwhile, the transatlantic move also raises questions about the future of the couple’s business operations and how they plan to run them from Europe.

In response, Harrold points out that the Sussexes’ business interests “may well continue wherever they are in the world”, despite rumors suggesting tensions in their professional partnership.

Harrold is also confident the couple will maintain their high-profile friendships in Hollywood.

“I’m sure they will keep the friendships they have. As with everyone who goes abroad, friends will come to visit. I don’t think this will be the end of their celebrity friendships at all “, he noted.

Christopher Andersen, author of “The King,” previously said Fox News Digital that Meghan “would be perfectly happy never to set foot in the UK again”.

“Harry and Meghan live a pretty idyllic life in California, regardless of what their detractors like to imagine,” Andersen explained. “Meghan probably accepted their situation…with the royal family much earlier than Harry did – if he did.”

“Meghan is more realistic and realized early on that the monarchy and those who control it are intractable. This goes for the king and the rest of the royal family,” Andersen added.
