Three people are dead following a helicopter crash in Louisiana.

On Friday, November 1, a Robinson R44 helicopter carrying three people, including a baby, crashed around 9 p.m. local time in the Iowa city, according to a declaration of the Federal Aviation Administration.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as Jared Savant, 50, his wife Tanya and their 2-year-old daughter, all from Kinder.

“This is a very tragic accident, and our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected,” Sheriff Stitch Guillory said in the release.

“Our deputies arrived on scene and began a preliminary investigation,” he added. “The Federal Aviation Administration was called to investigate the accident and our deputies remained on scene and assisted until the FAA arrived, began their investigation and cleared the debris from the accident. area I would like to express our gratitude to the community members who live in the area where the accident occurred, without hesitation they provided assistance at the scene until first responders arrived and continued to. provide assistance until the scene is clear.

The FAA said it is currently investigating the incident with the National Transportation Safety Board, which is “in charge of the investigation” and responsible for “further updates.”

The crash happened in the 5000 block of Hecker Road near Iowa City. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, local firefighters and Louisiana State Police responded to the scene, according to CBS affiliate KFDM-TV And The United States today.

A spokesperson for the National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE that “a Robinson R-44 struck a roadway under unknown circumstances” and a “post-crash fire ensued.”

They also said the NTSB investigator was currently “finishing the on-site investigation.”

Details about where the helicopter took off from or where it was heading are unknown, according to The United States today.

Guillory also told KFDM-TV that the plane appears to be a personal helicopter.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.
