The cult is like a much more sinister and weirder Cult of the Lamb that you can play now

Cult of the Lamb has been one of the biggest indie hits of recent years, so it’s no surprise that we’re starting to see more and more titles exploring cults, even though they provide fertile ground for games for a long time. Games like Worshipers of Cthulhu, The Shrouded Isle, and Honey, I Joined a Cult have delved into cults in their own ways, but if you’re looking for another newcomer, then the next one Worship sounds like this is exactly what you’re looking for. Additionally, it offers a demo that you can try before the game fully launches.

In Worship you are responsible for bringing about the end of the world, as all good cults should do. In order to bring about the apocalypse in the name of your supernatural deity, you will need to recruit hapless pawns – sorry, I mean a flock of followers – and use them to advance your goals. In true Pikmin fashion, you will ask them to complete tasks, undertake rituals, and throw their lives into the fire of your god’s ambition.

Of course, you can’t end the world without first controlling it. RPG Aspects come into play. You will need to explore far and wide, kill enemies, cast spells and enhance the power of your dark lord in order to insidiously bring everyone into your faith. Unlike some titles, there’s no pretense here about which side you’re on. You work on the side of evil, so you will perform many dastardly deeds while shedding blood for your master.

What’s most compelling about Worship, aside from its integration of four-player co-op, is its style. Presenting itself as a cross between Grim Fandango and something like Minit, Worship has a stark appearance that nevertheless manages to be full of life. At least, until you end these lives, anyway.

Worship doesn’t have a launch date yet, but you can play its demo on Steam right now. Visit the game’s store page to learn more moreand check it out for yourself.
