Forget the RTX 4000 series, the RTX 3060 is the gift that keeps on giving as Nvidia’s GPU once again tops the Steam Hardware survey for October

There is good news and bad news for Nvidia in the last Steam Hardware Survey, which shows its RTX3060 GPU takes the lead Most popular GPU in October, beating the RTX 4000 series laptop GPU – two years after the RTX 4000 series launched.

As spotted by VideoCardz, the 3060 is used by 7.46% of PC gamers (who participated in the investigation). This may be surprising given the age of the GPU, but the RTX 3060 has held this position for a long time: July saw a 5.88% market share, with a 1.58% increase through October.

Although Team Green’s RTX 4000 desktop series has received critical acclaim (many appearing in our roundup of best graphics cards money can buy), the survey suggests that gamers don’t seem so keen – the RTX 4060 laptop GPU is the second most popular among Steam users, with high-end graphics cards in the range falling far behind top ten. It looks like the RTX 3000 series still has plenty of life left in it – and that may not be good news for Nvidia, which would most likely prefer its customers upgrade to the newer GPUs.
