A Mooroopna man has been charged with murder following the death of a man in Echuca at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a property on McSwain Road in the northern Victoria town around 7.30pm on Saturday.

Homicide Squad detectives were called to investigate after the body of a 56-year-old Echuca man was found at the scene.

Aaron James Hare, 30, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

Victoria Police said the men knew each other.

Mr Hare appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates Court on Monday and the matter is expected to return to court on May 12.
