Francesco Bagnaia says he will go “all out” at the 2024 Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix as his title hopes hang in the balance following his sprint crash.

The reigning world champion is now 29 points behind Martin and could lose his crown if the Pramac driver beats him by nine points on Sunday after Bagnaia. crashed out of the sprint.

It was Bagnaia’s eighth retirement of the year, including five in sprint races.

Explaining his third-lap crash at Turn 9, Bagnaia said: “Honestly, I said to myself – as has already happened this season – ‘Okay, I’m going to brake a little afterwards so as not to take any risks’ and I I fell.

“This is not the first time this has happened. I entered this corner a little slower, but I hit the bump at the top of the corner and lost the front end.

“I’ve done it, I don’t know how many laps this weekend and over the years, and I’ve touched it many, many times and I’ve never crashed.

“So there’s always a first time and it wasn’t the right time. But it’s something that, honestly, can happen.

If Martin wins on Sunday, Bagnaia will need to be second to force the championship into the final round.

As such, Bagnaia says he will go “all out”, while also hoping that Marc Marquez and Enea Bastianini can join him and Martin on the pace in order to take points from the Pramac driver.

“I will go as always, full shipment,” he said.

“I will try to win. We know perfectly well that the only negative point I have is in the sprint races, because all the mistakes I made, all the points I lost, it’s on Saturday.

“It’s a shame from my point of view, but Jorge was simply better on Saturdays this season and we have to say he did a very good job there.

“But tomorrow I will do a full shipment. I really hope that Marc and Enea find something to get closer to us, because I think that in the current worst situation, Jorge will finish second, because we have no rivals.

“But giving your best, winning the race won’t be enough. So we will need something more.

After qualifying on pole, Bagnaia lost the lead to Martin but was confident the Pramac driver would encounter tire wear and that the world champion’s pace on worn tires was better.

“I knew he had more problems with the worn tires and I was just waiting,” he said when asked by Crash.net what his strategy was when he lost the lead.

“As soon as he started to get better, I waited. Then I saw that the pace was not that fast, so I just (thought) I would have a chance in the next few laps.

“I tried in the first lap, the first (flying lap) and I came into that turn nine a little too aggressive and I started to have a lot of movement from the front and I didn’t crash.
