Sudbury to host Ontario 55+ Summer Games in August

Sudbury will host the 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games in August thanks to a $235,000 investment from the province.

The competition comprises 18 disciplines – sports including cycling, swimming, golf and tennis, as well as several card games including cribbage and euchre.

The goal of the Ontario 55+ Summer Games is to provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in different sporting and recreational activities, according to a news release from the province.

“This is an exciting opportunity to not only showcase our vibrant community, but also attract visitors from across the province,” Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre said in a news release. .

“Holding these Games allows us to continue to increase our capacity to organize large-scale sports tourism events, thus generating economic benefits and cultivating community collaboration.”

Ontario Sports Minister Neil Lumsden said in a news release that the event will have a dual purpose.

They are “another great example of our work to maximize the economic impact of sports tourism in Ontario and help seniors lead healthier, more active lives,” Lumsden said.

The provincial government said hosting the event is expected to generate more than $1.5 million in economic benefits for Sudbury and its surrounding communities.
