Elections in Saskatchewan: a constituency still to be determined

The final riding to be decided in Saskatchewan’s 2024 election will come down to the final mail-in ballot, with the race still too close to call in Saskatoon Westview.

After a second count on October 30, NDP candidate April ChiefCalf leads Saskatchewan Party incumbent President David Buckingham by just 37 votes.

A total of 484 absentee ballots have been issued for the precinct, of which 291 have been counted so far.

The remaining mail-in ballots, up to 193, as well as correctional facility and hospital ballots that may still be returned will be part of the final tally in November.

Absentee ballots had to be mailed by 8 p.m. on Oct. 28 and must be received by Nov. 7 if they are to be part of the final count.

All remaining ballots will be counted in the final count on November 9.

An NDP victory would mean that all but one riding (Saskatoon Willowgrove) in Saskatoon and Regina voted for an NDP candidate or incumbent.

As things stand Thursday, Sask. The party’s majority government was elected with 34 seats. The opposition NDP was elected with 26 seats.

Saskatchewan. The party appears to have avoided an NDP victory in Saskatoon. CTV’s decision office declared Ken Cheveldayoff elected Wednesday in Saskatoon Willowgrove, following the results of the second recount.

All 12 ridings in Regina voted for an NDP candidate or incumbent.
