Hundreds of people will don sheets to try to beat the record for most ghosts

A town hopes to set a new world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as ghosts.

Hundreds of people are expected to don white sheets for the grisly Guinness World Record attempt in Brewery Square, Dorchester, at 5.30pm GMT.

Last year’s efforts in the Dorset town failed after people were scared by the rainwith only 204 people in attendance.

The current record stands at 560, set in 2017 by an Irish school.

Discover Dorchester organizers said they were hoping for better fortune this year.

Brewery Square center manager Tara Bailey said Halloween was one of the highlights of the year.

“Last year we came close to breaking the record, but we are determined to make history this time,” she said.

“We can’t do this alone…we need everyone to join in and help make the event even more ghostly!” »

The attempt is part of a larger Halloween day organized by the tourist group.

After the record attempt, participants are invited to join an evening of live music and dancing.

Mercy School Mounthawk in Tralee set the world record in March 2017.

A previous attempt, organized by Manchester City Council in 2022, also failed when bad weather discouraged people from attending.
