Coastal Bend voters feel election fatigue

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The 2024 election season has been sensory overload for some. There has been a steady stream of campaign messages from both political parties.

Early voters at the deaf and hard of hearing early voting site said they were experiencing voter fatigue.

All these messages have a purpose. They encourage people to vote.

“Messages like, ‘Oh, you need to come vote, oh, we need your vote.’ And then I live not far from here so there are signs. More signs every day,” said Toni Limas, an early voter.

Mark Ramsey, an early voter, said the numerous reminders didn’t deter him from voting, but they prepared him for when it was over.

“We’re ready to be done with it, I am. I think we’re at that point, as a lot of people are, about who’s going to take office and move on with their lives,” Ramsey said.

Voters said the barrage of messages may be annoying, but it works.

“I am ready to vote and return to my usual activities. I think people who care about our community will not be influenced not to vote. Even though there is some aggression, I still think that by voting for what you think is right, those people will come out and vote,” said Alex Hinojosa, an early voter.

But it is not only the constant pressures that tire voters, it is also their content.

“Throwing dirt, I think.” With all these different opinions, you don’t know who to believe,” Limas said.

But with Halloween, they can focus on something else, at least for a day.

“I think just trick or treating with kids, going out and seeing other people doing it is a mild distraction for a night,” Ramsey said.

Then we return to the election period, because it is not over.

“Is it really over and done with?” I’m a little scared of the results, I’m pretty excited to see how it goes and I’m hopeful for the future,” Limas said.

Although early voters said the flood of pulses can be tiring, they said they are appropriate to remind you to do your civic duty and vote.
