Copper Shores Introduces Renowned Giving Method for Upcoming Giving Tuesday

HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – The Copper Shores Community Health Foundation is offering a new way for people to donate for Giving Tuesday this year.

Called the Give Copper Country Amplification Fund, it is a pool of money used to amplify donations to nonprofit organizations.

“Every donation received, as it always has been, will be returned to the nonprofit for which it was intended,” said Michael Babcock, Copper Shores director of marketing and donor relations. “And then we take all that money that was given to them and amplify it. So if one of the nonprofits raises 5% of the total money donated, they will receive 5% of the amplification fund.

Copper Shores is launching the fund at $200,000. People can donate to the fund and participating nonprofits. Babcock spoke about the change.

“People thought when they saw the match it would be a head-to-head match. And it all started like that,” Babcock continued. “But as we’ve grown, both on the nonprofit and donor levels, that one-on-one pairing isn’t quite the same as it used to be, but the core is still the same. Your dollar goes further than it would if it wasn’t part of Giving Tuesday.

Babcock also notes that 13 nonprofits are participating for the first time this year.

This includes the From the Ground Up Farmers Market collective. The collective manages three markets from summer to fall in the county and a fresh market from October to November.

According to Rachel Pressley, co-founder and secretary of the collective, the collective has several ideas on how to use the donations.

“Food access programs, that supply our farmers markets,” Pressley said. “More educational initiatives in our markets, such as cooking demonstrations or nutrition workshops and workshops for our vendors. »

Other nonprofit organizations participating this year include Keweenaw County Search & Rescue and the Ontonagon Area Hockey Association.

Donations are scheduled to open on November 12 and continue through Giving Tuesday on December 3.
