Driving is better for vacation than flying, many Americans say

When it comes to Americans arriving at their vacation destinations this year, many have a preferred means of travel.

Motel 6 and Studio 6 revealed their 2024 results vacation trip survey – sharing that more and more travelers prefer to drive.

The results revealed that more than half of people, 51%, say they plan to drive to their destination, while 13% plan to fly.

The survey, conducted by Talker Research, polled 2,000 Americans who celebrate the winter holidays.

Forty percent of those who drive say they enjoy driving, while 46% say their destination is close.

“There’s just something comforting and nostalgic about boarding the family car with a trunk full of gifts and cooked meals and a road trip for your holiday celebrations,” said Julie Arrowsmith, president and CEO of G6 Hospitality, in a press release.

Arrowsmith added: “It’s no surprise that we’re seeing an uptick in this trusted travel choice this year given the current environment.”

Twenty-six percent of Americans say they drive because it’s cheaper than to steal.

A AAA spokesperson told Fox News Digital via email that driving gives travelers more flexibility over their departure times.

“The car is still the preferred car because it tends to be cheaper and more practical for most people,” the spokesperson said.

“Typically, 85-90% of vacationers drive – and 7-8% fly – and the rest will go by bus, train or travel. on a cruise“.
