Lock Haven girls wrestling comes in at No. 17 in preseason poll | News, Sports, Jobs

The Lock Haven girls wrestling team will begin the 2024-25 season ranked 17th, and Grace Stem and Lily Sherer are ranked individually.

The National Wrestling Coaches Association released the NCAA preseason women’s coaching rankings and Lock Haven was named No. 17 in the country. Stem will enter the season ranked fourth at 138 and Sherer is projected ninth at 131.

Last season, the Bald Eagles reached No. 7 in the national rankings and sent six wrestlers to the 2024 NCWWC National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As a team, the Bald Eagles earned two All-Americans and finished seventh out of 30 qualifying schools, their highest finish in program history.

In 2023-24, Sherer and Stem led the Haven to a silver medal at the 2024 Region 1 Championships, hosted by Lock Haven.

Stem, a two-time reigning All-American, finished fourth at 136 after going 4-2 overall over two days of competition last season. Stem earned his trip to Iowa by winning gold at 136 at the Region 1 championship.

As a junior, Sherer qualified for the state tournament after a fourth-place finish at the Region I championships, finishing with a 2-2 record at the state competition. Sherer earned All-American status as a sophomore after placing eighth at nationals.
