Steelers’ Justin Fields avoided major injuries, will attempt to play MNF

The Pittsburgh Steelers could enter Monday Night Football against the New York Giants, hoping to pick up their sixth win of the season. While there’s a good chance they can, the Steelers could find themselves without their backup quarterback.

Justin Fields is dealing with a hamstring injury that could keep him out of Monday’s game against the Giants. Although Fields serves as Russell Wilson’s backup, his absence would worry the quarterback room a bit.

According to Ian Rapoport, “Steelers Quarterback Justin Fields will test his hamstring when he arrives at the stadium tonight to determine his role, but sources say he has not suffered a major injury and has not missed any playing time. training for this. If there are problems, with the bye approaching, the PIT will be cautious.”

Kyle Allen would be the presumed backup expected to enter the game if something happened to Wilson.

Although Wilson was benched in place of Wilson as the starter, he helped the Steelers to a 4-2 record. In those six games, he passed for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. He also had 231 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.

Many thought Fields should have been given the chance to start the rest of the season. However, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin allowed Wilson to start in Week 6 and he played a wonderful game.

Wilson passed for 264 yards and two touchdowns in his 2024 regular season debut, all but silencing those who thought he should stay on the bench. Although replacing Fields is questionable, Tomlin also indicated he is open to the idea of playing them both.

If Week 8 had been the time Tomlin would have pulled off a few double-quarterback tricks, he might have to wait until later. Fields is expected to test his hamstring during warmups to determine if he can play a role in Monday’s game. Again, he would likely be a backup, but there could be offensive packages that could include him in the future.

The good news is that the Steelers are facing the 2-5 Giants. Even though New York has been a bit of a timid opponent, they remain competitive. Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns can wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks and expect them to try and pick on Wilson a lot.

If Wilson goes down, then he will be replaced by Allen, assuming Fields isn’t healthy enough.
