Woman fined almost £2,000 for dumping in Bromley

A west London woman has been fined almost £2,000 after waste was found dumped 20 miles away in Biggin Hill, south-east London.

The waste was discovered by Bromley Council officers in May and included a cardboard box with the address of a Westbourne Park resident.

Laura Estrada, of Great Western Road, failed to respond to legal notices and was found guilty in her absence at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on October 8.

She was fined £1,000 for failing to provide officers with requested information, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £440 and prosecution costs of £423.

Building waste and various household items were found scattered among rubbish which blocked a path leading to a plot of land on Oaklands Lane.

Councilor Angela Page, Executive Councilor for Public Protection and Law Enforcement, said: “We are tackling the threat of fly-tipping, with the support of residents.

“What may not be known is that in addition to clarifying reports of dumped waste, we also investigate possible responsibilities.

“This example is also a timely reminder to always do checks when asking someone else to dispose of waste on your behalf.”

The council said residents can dispose of bulky waste at a reuse and recycling center or book waste collection via the council’s website.
