Ultra-rare coin can sell for £140,000 – but with just one detail

Did you know that you could be sitting on a gold mine if you own this rare coin?

Some coins are worth a staggering amount of money, and it takes immense patience to unearth such treasures. If you’re an avid collector, you should look for a penny in your change now.

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard revealed this “ultra-rare” version could fetch up to £140,000. In a message to his 207,500 followers, the expert revealed the penny dated from 1937 and was minted to commemorate King Edward VIII.

He explained: “This is the 1937 penny and was struck to celebrate the reign of King Edward VIII. However, the plans were abandoned in December 1936 following the royal’s abdication to marry divorced American Wallace Simpson.

“This coin was one of 50 coins that were produced to evaluate the design. Now what you need to do is search your old pre-decimal coins for a 1937 coin. When you find a 1937 coin , this does not mean that you have found the “super rare” version.

He added: “What you need to do is check the obverse side of the coin, also known as the head side. If your coin features King Edward VIII, then yes, you have found an ultra-rare version and can easily sell this coin for £140,000.”

Unfortunately, if you can’t spot the king’s profile on your coin, then it is neither rare nor valuable. Since the video was posted online, it has garnered nearly 500 likes and dozens of comments.

One user posted: “I did it.” Another asked: “How much is it worth exactly?”

In other coin news, we recently saw a rare penny making headlines for its mega value.

The same TikTok The user posted a video that begins with cleaning a pre-decimal coin from 1899 – a risky move that could potentially damage the coin.

He explained: “Here we have the pre-decimal penny from 1894 and it was actually the last pre-decimal penny to depict a young head of Queen Victoria or otherwise known as the Bun Head.

“As you can see, the obverse features Victoria’s bust facing left, with her hair in a bun.”
