Winnipeg police search for suspect after unprovoked machete attack Friday morning

Winnipeg police are searching for a man following a machete attack Friday morning.

WPS says officers responded to the Health Sciences Center after receiving a report that a man had entered the hospital with serious injuries.

Speaking with the 56-year-old man in hospital, police learned that around 4:15 a.m. the man was walking along Ellice Avenue near Beverly Street when he was attacked from behind by someone who is allegedly armed with a machete.

Following the incident, the man went to hospital with life-altering injuries.

Police believe the attack was unprovoked, noting that the man did not know his attacker.

The man suspected in the attack was 1.70m tall and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans at the time.
