Northeast Region  

Six new wildfires have been confirmed in the Northeast region since the last update late Monday afternoon, October 21:

• Sudbury 56 (SUD056) is a 2.9 hectare forest fire under control and located approximately 1 kilometer west of Beaver Lakes.
• Sudbury 57 (SUD057) is an uncontrolled 5 hectare forest fire. This fire is located 500 meters north of Surveyor Lake.
• Sudbury 58 (SUD058) was a 0.1 hectare wildfire that is now extinguished. This fire is located approximately 500 meters east of Owl Lake.
• Chapleau 19 (CHA019) is a 1.0 hectare wildfire that is not contained. This fire is located on the north shore of Lake Harland.
• Timmins 20 (TIM020) is a 0.3 hectare fire located approximately 1 kilometer west of Duke Lake. This fire under control.
• Bancroft9 (BAN009) is a 2.4 hectare fire located approximately 1.5 kilometers southeast of Canning Lake and is uncontained.

At the time of this update, there are six active wildfires in the Northeast region: three are uncontained and three are under control.

The fire risk is low in the northern part of the Northeast region. For areas located on the north shore of Lake Huron, south of Sudbury and North Bay, the fire risk is moderate. There is a high fire risk area in the Tory Hill, Gooderham and Buckhorn Lake area.

Follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations

This fall, Aviation, Wildland Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to use caution when conducting any outdoor burning. To dispose of yard waste and woody debris, we encourage you to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations.

Fires must be started no earlier than two hours before sunset and must be extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise. Always have adequate tools/water to contain fire on site. Know the rules for safe outdoor burning; consult all of theOutdoor Burning Regulations.

To report a forest fire located north of the French and Mattawa rivers, please dial 310-FIRE. To report a forest fire located south of the French River or the Mattawa River, please call 911.
