North Hunterdon rules the hills at Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex cross country

It was (almost) all green and gold at the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex cross country championships on Thursday morning; The green and gold of northern Hunterdon.

The Lions’ roar of dominance could be heard from the hills of the Phillipsburg Athletic Complex as they captured both the boys’ and girls’ team titles.

The Northern boys were so impressive that they would have won if the match had been scored as a dual meet between them and the rest of the field. The Lions placed five runners in the top 10, while the top three all won by 20 points to runner-up Phillipsburg’s 80 points. If it had been a north-field double, the score would have been 20-35. .

The only varsity championship to elude North Hunterdon was the girls’ individual champion; Voorhees junior Daphne Roskowski continued her undefeated invitational record this fall by winning in 18:46; He participated in five major races and won all five. His time was 12 seconds faster than when he met on the same course at the Skyland Conference on October 15.

“I think my time went down because I was pushing harder in this race,” Roskowski said. “Kelly Shanklin stayed for the majority of the race until the last 800m so she pushed me throughout the race and so did Molly (Domurat) from Hunterdon Central. This week was more competitive, last week I was more relaxed and it showed over time. I was happy with the time.

Roskowski will next take his unbeaten streak into the North 2 Group 2 regional competition at Greystone Park on November 2.

“I think our coach (Dave DeWolfe) has a plan for us to dominate both individually and as a team in the semifinals,” he said.

Belvidere sophomore Alexandra Ferreira finished sixth in 20:09, becoming the highest ranked County Seater in H/W/S, boy or girl, in years.

Adelyn Davis of Phillipsburg was the home team’s top girl with a time of 20:16, placing eighth.
