Saquon’s Leapfrog and DeVonta’s Toe Drag

PHILADELPHIA – On paper, it didn’t look good. In practice, it was even worse for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That is until Jacksonville made a strong comeback and was on the verge of an improbable victory before Trevor Lawrence’s game-clinching interception thrown to Nakobe Dean with less than two minutes remaining secured a win Eagles 28-23.

The Eagles took a 22-0 lead into the third quarter and accumulated a 265-36 yard advantage. and held the Jaguars to a first down with 9:25 left in the third quarter.

THE BULLS

SAQUON – Saquon Barkley did it in both phases, but the highlight was a reverse leapfrog not seen since Jimmy Snuka headlined the WWF in the early 1980s.

Barkley scored through the air, abusing safety Darnell Savage on a wheel route and on the ground when Jalen Hurts caught Jacksonville sleeping on a red-and-17 and Barkley used a Cam Jurgens block that opened a whole almost as big as South. Philadelphia as Barkley rushed to the right side of the end zone untouched.

SMITTY — When the Eagles needed it and the second half turned into the Yankees’ fifth inning, DeVonta Smith delivered in the form of a deep 46-yard throw to set up a 25-yard touchdown reception on one play from third and 22. where it was Smitty’s trademark toe dragging swag.

Both balls were also thrown perfectly by Jalen Hurts, but it was Smith’s ability to make the big play in the passing offense without AJ Brown out with a knee injury that saved the Eagles’ bacon.

NAKPBE DEAN – The linebacker was much maligned when it came to his coverage skills, so Doug Pederson put the play in the hands of Lawrence and Travis Etienne late in the game in the form of a cartwheel route.

The ball is overturned, too inside and Etienne does not follow the ball. Even with all that, Dean was shaken by the game-sealing interception as if he was the offensive player Lawrence was targeting.

THE BEARS

COACH’S DECISION MAKING – In fans’ minds, Nick Sirianni left a lot of points on the board by being too aggressive and Jacksonville was somehow still in the game when Jake Elliott missed the 57 with just over two minutes left.

INJURIES – The Eagles lost AJ Brown injured his knee late in the first half and came out for the second bot who was unable to go due to a knee injury while Ben VanSumeren was lost to a concussion after starting the match at fullback.

…More to come.
