Hornets’ Grant Williams ejected after crushing former Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum

Charlotte Frelons forward Grant Williams and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum was teammates for four years — from 2020-23 — and won an Eastern Conference title together.

You wouldn’t know it from the way they interacted Friday night during the Hornets’ game against the Celtics.

With just over two minutes left and Boston leading 114-105, Tatum grabbed a defensive rebound and looked to move the ball up the court. As he approached center field, Williams checked Tatum and sent him tumbling to the ground.

Tatum appeared perturbed by the play, although he took no action against Williams.

The referees, however, assessed Williams as a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected him from the match.

Williams finished his night with six points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes, while Tatum had 32 points and 11 rebounds in 36 minutes.

The Celtics ended up finishing with a 124-109 victory to move to 5-1 on the season.
