NEW YORK (WABC)– Thousands of runners from around the world marched across the marathon finish line in Central Park on Friday during the annual opening ceremony of the TCS New York City Marathon presented by United Airlines.

In addition to the Parade of Nations bringing together representatives from nearly 150 countries participating in the TCS New York Marathon, the celebration included the 2024 NYRR Hall of Fame inductees, the TCS New York Marathon Grand Marshal and the five-time Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas, who welcomed the athletes to the festivities.

Members of the New York Road Runners community programs and local running clubs also participated.

The ceremonies ended with a dazzling fireworks display.

Among the participants were:

Gabby Thomas: Grand Marshal of the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon and five-time Olympic medalist
2024 NYRR Hall of Fame Inductees: Amanda McGrory – two-time New York City Marathon champion and Paralympian; Vince Chiappetta – co-founder of the New York Marathon
Team Inspire: A group of 26 runners participating in the TCS New York City Marathon with incredibly unique and moving stories
NYRR Streakers: runners who have completed at least 15 TCS New York marathons
NYRR Striders: Participants in Free Walking and Fitness Program for Seniors
NYRR Open Runners: participants in the community run/walk program in neighborhood parks across the five boroughs
Rising New York Road Runners Youth Ambassadors: Members of NYRR’s youth running program that teaches children to be healthy and active throughout their lives.
NYRR Run for the Future: Alumni of the running, fitness and wellness program for middle and high school girls
NYRR Team for Kids: Adult riders raise money for NYRR’s free youth and community offerings

The 2024 TCS New York City Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 3.
