Osun Assembly introduces bill on establishment of multi-door courts to improve administration of justice

The Osun State House of Assembly has introduced the Osun State Multi-Gate Court Establishment Bill, 2024.

The decision of the Assembly, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to President Adewale Egbedun, is aimed at reforming the judicial system in the state.

The bill, sponsored by Femi Popoola, representing Boripe-Boluwaduro state constituency, seeks to implement alternative dispute resolution, ADR, mechanisms that promise to ease the burden on traditional courts and ensure faster and more efficient justice for citizens.

The statement outlining key policy objectives presented by Popoola highlighted “the potential of the Bill to provide various dispute resolution options, including mediation, arbitration and conciliation”.

His remarks were supported by other Assembly members, who recognized the bill’s ability to empower individuals to choose the method best suited to their particular situation.

The initiative, the press release added, “aims to tackle the problem of case backlogs which have long afflicted the judicial system, by promoting the amicable resolution of conflicts and, ultimately, contributing to a more harmonious society “.

In his speech, President Adewale Egbedun highlighted the importance of the bill, noting that “it aligns with global best practices in judicial administration and reflects a commitment to modernizing the legal framework of the state “.

He said: “As Osun State moves forward with this initiative, it is expected that the establishment of multi-door courts will lead to a more efficient and responsive justice system, thereby improving access to justice for all citizens. »

Egbedun noted that the introduction of the Osun State Multi-Gate Courts Establishment Bill is seen as an important step towards improving the legal landscape in the region, and stakeholders are optimistic regarding its potential impact on the community.
