European preview: Barcelona aim to pull away and Napoli backed for title

Napoli attempted to maintain their Serie A title race by taking on third-placed Atalanta.

Antonio Conte’s side are unbeaten in 10 matches, including nine wins, and will hope to maintain or extend their four-point lead over Inter Milan on Sunday (11:30 GMT).

“That’s what Antonio Conte does in Italy,” said Italian football expert James Horncastle.

“Going back to the first day, they lost 3-0 at Hellas Verona. The transfer window was still open, he didn’t have some of the players he really wanted, like Scott McTominay – ‘McTomadona’ – and Billy Gilmour.

“Once McTominay came in he was very useful playing against Romelu Lukaku, he has the engine to be in a midfield three but he also has the energy to get behind Lukaku.

“And they have arguably one of the best dribblers in the world, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. I think they will win the championship. Napoli look very good.”

But Atalanta, who boast Serie A top scorer Mateo Retegui, have lost just once since August and a win would bring them back to within three points of the leaders.

Second-placed Inter are in trouble with Venezia at 19:45 GMT.

Juventus – who are unbeaten but have drawn six of their 10 matches – travel to Udinese on Saturday (17:00 GMT).
