First Weather Alert: The Hottest Halloween in Decades is Coming

ROCHESTER, NY — Rochester tied a record Wednesday, reaching at least 78 degrees, tying the old record of 78 degrees dating back to 1946. We may not be done yet!

The hottest Halloween on record was 80 degrees in 1971. We’re forecasting a high of 78 degrees, which may not be a record, but it would be the second hottest Halloween on record and the hottest since over 20 years old. In addition to the heat, we expect most, if not all, of the rain to wait until just before midnight, which would keep the majority of Trick or Treaters warm and dry!

Of course, this time will not last. A strong cold front will result in a few showers Thursday evening into Friday morning, accompanied by gusty winds and much cooler air.

The weekend looks pretty good, with good sunshine, despite cooler air on Saturday, and seasonal temperatures and dry weather for Sunday. We’re also looking at another small warm-up next week, but there will be a better chance of rain by the middle of next week. As for Election Day, the weather doesn’t appear to be a major issue, with only a few showers.
