The free streaming service you’re missing

  • Tubi is a free streaming service with an extensive library including movies, TV shows, documentaries, and live TV shows.

  • It offers features like a watchlist, parental controls, personalized subtitles, and simple TV connectivity for an enhanced viewing experience.

  • Tubi competes with mainstream services, offering a curated interface, a huge collection, and no hidden fees for live TV channels.

Have you ever traveled the internet to find a quality, free (or at least inexpensive) streaming service, only to come up empty-handed? There may be a website you’ve been browsing that has features that rival paid streaming services. Here’s why you need to create your next watchlist on Tubi.

What is Tubi?

Tubi is a free streaming service with an extensive library of curated titles and collections. There are no hidden fees for this service (no, not even a “Pro” version), the only downside being that it is funded by advertising. But the good streaming and audio quality, interface and extensive collection make up for the limited ads, which I think provide good value for money.

What is streaming?

Tubi has a huge collection of movies, TV shows, and documentaries spread across a long list of genres, collections, and recommendations. Some of Tubi’s partner networks include TMZ, CONtv, FilmRise and CJ ENM. Aside from that, Tubi offers a handful of originals and exclusives, an impressive addition to the free service.

Tubi has a small collection of foreign language and arthouse films. I’ve found that even though Tubi’s offerings aren’t extremely up-to-date, you can still find classic and award-winning titles to binge-watch (especially if you’re a fan of horror or romantic comedies).

The streaming service also offers Tubi Kids and live TV for free, offering channels covering sports, reality and entertainment. In the Live TV tab, you can find regularly scheduled shows and movies on channels like Bloomberg Originals, DAZN TV, and Waypoint TV, among others.

What I like about Tubi’s live TV offering, beyond the neat schedule and categorization by genre, is that, unlike streaming services, like Amazon Prime Emptyo, you don’t have to pay separate subscription fees to watch these channels live. Combined with the fact that everything else on Tubi TV is free with no hidden fees, this feature is a deciding factor when weighing your options for budget (or free) streaming services, especially for cord-cutters looking to switch slowly to streaming services.

Best Tubi Features

There’s a lot to like about Tubi, aside from the fact that it’s free to use. On the one hand, I find the library easy to use, with a sleek interface that lets you browse titles by more than just genres. You can sort them by popularity, trending titles, staff picks, release time, etc. Tubi’s “Collections” category is also tactfully curated, with categories such as “Comedy Con(tent)”, “Movie Night!” » and “Nostalgia TV”.

While I’m a fan of the well-designed interface on the mobile and web app, what strikes me most about Tubi is how dedicated the service is to making the viewing experience as good as possible in competition with paid subscription services. . It has features that you can find in any general public (possibly expensive), such as a dedicated “My List”, a way for you to set parental restrictions on content (except Tubi Kids), and a recommendation system that improves with each like and dislike that you give.

Tubi lets you browse your profile settings to see a list of titles you’re currently watching. You can also view and delete your “Continue Watching” history for better recommendations and customize subtitles just like you would in YouTube video settings.

Another feature Tubi offers to ensure a good viewing experience is an easy way to connect your TV to Tubi via the mobile or web app, which isn’t something I’ve seen as easily accessible on many services general public.

A bonus point is Tubi’s live TV, which has a great sorting system and sports broadcast which competes with competitors who offer live channels. The only downside I see in the Live TV tab is the automatic picture-in-picture (PiP) that shows up when you’re browsing and can’t close, which can be a bit annoying when you try to read the schedules of scheduled broadcasts.

How does it compare to other streaming services?

After using Tubi for the first time, the first impression the service left on me was that it holds a candle to many underrated (and, in some ways, even popular) apps. streaming services in terms of features, appearance and collection. What I like about Tubi is its simplicity, and its basic offerings are good enough to warrant a second look. It’s not just “good for free service”; This is good for a streaming service that offers something for everyone.

Some disadvantages of Tubi that I find compared to other streaming services are that it does not offer features such as Dolby Atmos sound or ultra HD streaming quality, and there is a lack of offerings when it comes to subtitles in different languages.

Some of its titles may also seem a little dated compared to other services’ newer offerings, but the beauty of Tubi is that there is a good mix of classic, niche, original, and relatively new titles. This makes you feel like you’re not bombarded by recently released titles, and thanks to the well-organized sorting system, you may also discover some nostalgia along the way.

If you’re having trouble understanding a free streaming service that offers a lot (and no hidden fees), this isn’t surprising. I think Tubi is very underrated for what it offers and is worth a shot for anyone looking to move from cable TV to streaming. It’s also a good alternative if you’re looking for cheap options among a bunch of services that require additional fees on top of your base subscription for an ad-free experience.
