Two Mississauga restaurants win ,000 DoorDash grants

Two Mississauga restaurants have won $10,000 DoorDash and Black Opportunity Fund grants.

Honey Soul Food at 5977 Dixie Rd. and Souperlicious at 400 Dundas St. E. were two of 17 Black-owned or operated businesses to win the grants, DoorDash Canada and Black Opportunity Fund said in a news release.

Food for the soul with honey is a “soul food restaurant with a southern twist” serving chicken wings, sandwiches, Cajun shrimp and cornbread.

Caribbean restaurant Superlicious serves soups, porridges, pancakes and fusion burritos.

Grant recipients come from across Canada and feature cuisines from Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia and beyond. Each winner clearly presented what Black Food Energy means to them, in addition to highlighting how they intend to use the $10,000 grant to support the growth of their business, the release states.

“We were simply inspired by reading the individual stories of Black chefs and restaurateurs highlighted in each entry, because the passion these entrepreneurs demonstrated is unmatched,” said Delly Dyer, head of consumer brand marketing at DoorDash Canada.

The Black Opportunity Fund said they are extremely excited to once again partner with DoorDash Canada to provide grants to incredible Black Canadian restaurants.

“Food is a very important part of sharing culture and bringing people together. Each of these restaurants has a unique story to tell and is an important gathering place in their community,” said Craig Wellington, CEO of the Black Opportunity Fund.

“We are incredibly excited to see these businesses continue to thrive and look forward to celebrating even more Black food entrepreneurs with future grant rounds to come.” »

Honey Soul Food told INsauga that winning the Black Opportunity Fund and DoorDash grant was an incredible moment.

“It feels like a true recognition of the hard work and love we put into building this restaurant, and it means so much to know that others believe in our vision,” said a spokesperson for Honey Soul Food in a post.

The restaurateurs plan to use the funds to improve their infrastructure.

“These upgrades will make a big difference in how we operate every day, helping us better serve our customers and support our team as we continue to grow,” they said. “We are beyond grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to see what it will mean for our community and our mission.” »
