Tamarack Resort to expand the size of its base area and ski terrain

DONNELLY, Idaho — Tamarack Resort is doubling the size of its developable acreage after recently acquiring approximately 500 acres of “prime development land.” The expansion connects a previously unconnected parcel of land that the resort purchased in 2019.

Tamarack hopes to develop the area into a mix of residential units with ski access. This development goal exists alongside the resort’s previously submitted plan to expand its special use permit with the U.S. Forest Service to add 2,200 acres of skiable terrain. Currently, Tamarack Ski Area spans 1,100 acres.

According to Tamarack Resort President Scott Turlington, “This acquisition underscores Tamarack’s commitment to completing its master development plan for America’s only ski, golf and lake resort and becoming the premier four-season resort in the country.”

However, some things need to happen for the resort outside of Donnelly to nearly triple its skiable area. After a designated public comment period, Tamarack will be required to submit an environmental impact statement and develop a timeline for completing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. Once these hurdles are overcome, the resort will await a decision from the U.S. Forest Service whether to authorize the project as proposed. In the meantime, visitors to Tamarack this winter can enjoy the all-new Mid-Mountain Lodge, which offers skiers and snowboarders a place to warm up and grab a bite to eat without having to return to base.
