Jobs program seeks to grow Rockford’s clean energy sector

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Leaders say Rockford’s future looks bright as they roll out a program designed to create more jobs in the city’s clean energy sector.

The Clean Jobs Workforce Network program, part of the Illinois program Climate and Fair Employment Actconnects underrepresented communities with career opportunities in clean energy sectors like solar, wind and electric vehicle maintenance. Rockford is one of 13 CEJA Workforce Hubs across the state that provides training for entry-level clean energy jobs.

“This year we have a mission to try to train and recruit 150 people,” said Marvin Hightower, CEO of Zion West Enterprise. “But we want the program to continue, even after that, because the market is certainly there for those who can train and get into the clean energy space.”

Program partners include Workforce Connection, Goodwill Northern Illinois, Zion West Enterprise and more.
