Walmart worker who was ‘burned alive’ in bakery oven found by her mother, family says

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (Gray News) – The 19-year-old Walmart employee who was found dead in the walk-in oven of a store’s bakery section in Canada has been identified.

The family identified the worker as Gursimran Kaur on a GoFundMe pagewriting that she “was found burned to death in the walk-in oven.”

According to Halifax Regional Policeofficers responded to the Walmart store in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for a “sudden death” on October 19.

Police said the worker was found dead in a large walk-in oven in the bakery section of the store.

Kaur’s family said on the GoFundMe page that she and her mother worked at Walmart for the past two years.

The family said Kaur’s mother tried to find her daughter after not seeing her for an hour and she was not answering her phone, which was “unusual”. The family said the mother eventually found her daughter inside the oven.

“Imagine the horror his mother experienced when she opened the oven, when someone pointed it out to her!” » we read on the GoFundMe page.

Police said a “complex” investigation was underway and did not confirm the cause or manner of death.

“The investigation is complex and involves several partner agencies. An investigation of this nature can take a long time,” police wrote in a statement.

The family also said they could not share further details due to the ongoing investigation.

Kaur is originally from India and her family said she was a “beautiful young girl who came to Canada with big dreams.”

The GoFundMe page is no longer accepting donations because it has reached its fundraising goal.
