Virginia election official removed from office after 11 voters cast the wrong ballot and can’t vote for new ones

A Virginia election official was removed from her position after 11 voters received incomplete ballots, according to several local media outlets.

The Richmond Election Commission removed Precinct Manager Barbara Burgo during an emergency meeting Tuesday. according to WRIC-TV.

Voters received ballots that had federal elections written on them, but not mayor, city council or school board. according to VPM News, an NPR station.

“I have a new officer who gave the wrong ballot to 11 people,” Burgo told VPM Tuesday morning. “She’s new. She made a mistake. She’s a human being.”

Keith Balmer, Richmond’s registrar general, told VPM the problem arose when voters received ballots intended to be given to military or overseas voters.

During a 10 a.m. briefing on the problem, Virginia Department of Elections Commissioner Susan Beals said the problem had been resolved and voters who received incorrect ballots would not be allowed to cast one. other, reported the VPM.
