US Senate race: Congressman Colin Allred and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz make last-minute lobbying of voters ahead of Election Day

CYPRESS, Texas (KTRK) — One of the most important races is underway in Texas for the U.S. Senate.

Incumbent Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is hoping to defeat his Democratic challenger, Congressman Colin Allred, and is seeking a third six-year term.

Both candidates made last-ditch efforts to appeal to voters, with Cruz staying local in Cypress on Monday and Cruz in Dallas.

This campaign remains historic since the two together raised more than 160 million dollars.

Allred, who will be Texas’ first Black senator, hopes to capitalize on the state’s changing demographics and has made reproductive rights a key part of his campaign.

“We’re going to protect Medicare and Social Security. We’re going to secure the border. We’re going to fix our broken immigration system. There’s so much we can do, Texas, but we’ve got to get this guy out of the country.” way,” Allred said. “We don’t need to have a senator who thinks he knows better than our doctors as he goes to Cancun. They have lost their minds. You don’t mess with Texas women.”

The Texas Senate race between Ted Cruz and Collin Allred is heating up. In a last-ditch effort to win over voters, Allred held rallies in the Houston area.

Cruz, by contrast, said his challenger was “out of touch” when talking about conservative values.

“We want more jobs. We want higher wages. We want better opportunities. And how do you get jobs? You get it through low taxes. You get it through lower, predictable regulations, and you do that by keeping the federal government out of the backs of small businesses,” Cruz said. “Every race must be decided based on records, and I spent 12 years fighting every day for jobs, for freedom and for security.”

If Allred wins, it would be something a Democrat hasn’t done in three decades: win statewide office.
