Latest US elections: Harris makes surprise stop in Washington as Trump reveals election night plans | US News

Does the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement endure or die with Donald Trump?

That’s the question we here at Sky News asked Anthony Scaramucci, Trump’s former White House communications director.

In an interview arranged by Saxo, Mr. Scaramucci raised the possibility of another Republican — like JD Vance — picking up where Mr. Trump left off if he loses this election.

“I don’t think Vance can take over,” he said.

“He’s a well-spoken guy, but I think he’s too close to Donald Trump at this point, and I think he’s absorbed in the heat blast, which means if Trump implodes, he will be gutted.

If Mr. Trump wins, Mr. Vance will be “destroyed” in the same way that Mike Pence was following the 2020 election, he added.

“Vance is too close to Donald Trump. He’s finished. He’ll never get out of this.”

What happens to the party if Mr. Vance cannot “take back the torch”?

“The Mitt Romney and John McCain era of the party is over,” Mr. Scaramucci said.

“You now have this party merging MAGA and far-right cultural issues with the normal public principles of the Republican Party.”

So who gets it?

“If you ask these people, they like Tucker Carlson the most, they see him as the leader of the party.

“I don’t think Vance can be the leader of the party and I don’t think the Republican Party under Trump can, in other words, be the MAGA movement and Trumpism can’t hold.

“It’s a cult of personality. So I don’t know what will come of it, but it won’t be that.”
