Almost all interactive titles are leaving Netflix

For years, Netflix has attempted to expand its streaming dominance into the gaming industry with interactive TV shows and movies, as well as actual video games. But following Netflix’s closure of its AAA games studio, Team Blue, the streamer is also expected to remove almost all of its interactive titles at the end of November.

The edge has confirmed that of the 24 interactive shows and movies currently on Netflix, only four will still be available on December 1: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls, and You vs. Wild. Some of the departures include Escape the Undertaker, Triviaverse and animated specials featuring Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, Boss Baby and Carmen Sandiego.

“The (interactive) technology has served its purpose, but it is now limited as we focus on technology efforts in other areas,” Netflix spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher said in a statement to The Verge .

What’s next for Netflix’s gaming ambitions? Earlier this week, Mike Verdu, one of the founders of Netflix Games, announced that he was the new GenAI Vice President of Gaming at Netflix. He also described AI as “a transformational technology (that) will accelerate the speed of development and unlock truly new gaming experiences that will surprise, delight and inspire players.” This happened just weeks after the Team Blue developers were fired.

Netflix still has a handful of video game studios under its umbrella, and like the AAA title, Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings gamewhich will arrive on consoles and PC in early 2025.
