Stroke survivor urges people to act quickly on their symptoms

Mollie Blackman, based at the South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) control center in Medway, responded to Ms Hudson’s emergency call.

“It’s very important to call as soon as you notice any signs of a stroke, because the sooner a patient receives life-saving treatment, the greater their chance of recovery,” Ms Blackman said.

Doctors told Ms Hudson it was a miracle she survived the stroke, but warned her recovery could take up to a year.

Over the past 12 months, Secamb responded to 13,635 suspected stroke calls, the equivalent of one suspected stroke call every 40 minutes.

“I am very grateful for the quick response of the ambulance and hospital staff, because thanks to their care, I am now at home with my husband and daughter and working hard on the road to recovery,” Ms. Hudson.
