Calgary Weather: Poor Driving Conditions Reported Along Central Alberta Highways

As expected, a moisture-laden low pressure system entered Alberta late Monday, bringing first rain and then snow as temperatures dropped.

This same frontal system produced wind gusts up to 108 km/h along the coast and island of British Columbia on Monday, which, combined with rain and snow, had a measurable impact on commuters.

Visibility was limited around the Calgary area on Tuesday morning and roads filmed by Alberta’s 511 cameras appeared wet, icy and covered in snow. As of 7 a.m., Medicine Hat roads, which remain under a snowfall warning, appeared to be mostly dry.

Wet snow will persist through Tuesday morning in central and southern Alberta and northerly winds 40 to 60 km/h will persist into the early afternoon.

The ambient temperature in Calgary is expected to reach 2°C, but strong northerly winds will make it more like -5.

A change in weather conditions will begin to increase temperatures in southern Alberta by Wednesday, and by Thursday, daytime highs are expected to reach 13°C in Calgary with nighttime temperatures above 0°C .

The average temperature in Calgary this time of year is 7°C for the maximum and -5°C for the minimum.
