New video shows ballot box explosion in Vancouver, officials call ‘bomb attack’

C-TRAN camera footage shows smoke billowing from the Fisher’s Landing transit center ballot box moments after someone passed through. Less than 30 seconds after the car leaves, the urn explodes.

KATU obtained the video from the transit agency through a public records request Monday.

The FBI’s Seattle office is leading the investigation. The agency released a statement last week after the incident: “The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI want to assure our communities that we are working together closely and expeditiously to investigate the two incendiary fires at the polls in Vancouver, Washington and one in Portland, Oregon, and will work to hold anyone responsible fully accountable. “

Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey told KATU last week that the explosion did not deter voters from using the ballot boxes.

On Monday, Kimsey said that after “the Fisher’s Landing ballot box bombing…voters began using the ballot box personally at a higher rate than what we saw in 2020.”

Kimsey told KATU the county recovered 494 leftover ballots from the burned drop box, six of which were unidentifiable. The remaining 488 had voter-identifying information, which the auditor’s office contacted.
