Police issue update after ‘grenade’ found in car trunk

Homes and businesses were evacuated while emergency services responded to the scene.

Police have issued an update after a possible grenade was found in the trunk of a car. Merseyside Police were called to Strand Road in Bootle around 1:10 p.m. on Monday, November 4 following the discovery.

Several roads have been closed, including Strand Road since Litherland Roads leading to Cedar Street were closed, as was Beech Street. Dozens of firefighters and police officers were present, as well as the army’s neutralization unit.


Several homes and businesses were evacuated as a precaution, said a police spokesperson. In an update today, Tuesday 5 November, Merseyside Police confirmed that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit attended the scene and the object was detonated in a safe location.

The car in which the item was found was also seized by detectives. The police cordon was lifted around midnight and residents were allowed to return to their homes.


A spokesperson said: “Thank you to members of the public, residents and business owners for your patience while we dealt with this incident. »
