The Race Against Dust: How to Keep Your Home Clean This Fall

As summer transitions into fall, many of us are seeing a noticeable increase in dust levels at home. With cooler temperatures and closed windows, dust accumulates more quickly, sometimes seeming to multiply at an alarming rate. Here are some ways to manage it effectively.

Why does dust increase in autumn?

One of the main reasons is seasonal climate change. The strong winds typical of autumn carry dust from outside into our homes. Additionally, closing windows to keep out the cold reduces ventilation, causing dust to settle instead of dispersing.

Meni Hazan, Business Development Manager at Shaniv Sasatech, owner of the Touch and TNX brands, shares some tips for tackling indoor dust.

1. Use microfiber cloths for surface cleaning: Microfiber cloths capture dust more effectively than regular cloths, prevent dust from dispersing into the air, and are easy to use.

2. Clean the floors regularly: Wash the floors with water to capture dust. You can add an eco-friendly cleaner, but avoid harsh chemicals to protect your family’s health.

3. Ventilate daily: open the windows for a few minutes each day. Daily ventilation helps replace indoor air and reduce dust levels.

4. Clean appliances like air conditioners and heating systems before use: Dust can build up in these systems and spread throughout the house when they are turned on.

5. Establish a no-shoes policy indoors: Use a separate path or wear slippers indoors to reduce dust brought in from outside.

6. Dust furniture regularly: Clean all furniture, including shelves, tables and decorative items, at least once a week to prevent dust accumulation.

7. Consider vacuuming air conditioner filters: If you have an air conditioning system, use a vacuum cleaner on the filters to keep the system clean, which helps reduce airborne dust in your house.
