Springs Preserve announces upcoming November and December events in Las Vegas

With just two months left in 2024, the Springs Preserve invites visitors to end the year with them.

The venue will host several family events in November and December, as well as recurring events.

Events include:

Butterfly habitat

  • Until November 25: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission
  • Wander through this unique butterfly habitat and witness the fascinating dance between free-flying butterflies, the plants that support them, and their important role as pollinators in the ecosystem. Dates for this seasonal attraction may vary depending on weather.

DRI Science at the Springs – The Nevada Story

  • Thursday November 7: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Admission: $10, reservation required
  • This Desert Research Institute (DRI) conference provides a detailed overview of Nevada’s archaeological heritage. Immerse yourself in Nevada’s history through the lens of archaeology. Learn about the significance of Basque arbor glyphs, explore findings from the DRI Luminescence Lab, and learn about ancient rock art using 360-degree media.

Fall Garden Series – Winterizing Your Garden

  • Saturday November 9: 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • $10 for members and $15 for non-members, reservations required
  • Learn more about gardening in the desert from the experts at Springs Preserve.

Salute to Veterans Free Admission Day

  • Monday November 11: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • The Springs Preserve will offer free general admission to retired and active duty military personnel with valid ID on Monday, November 11 in honor of Veterans Day. Regular admission applies to accompanying persons.

Free entry for children with general admission charge for adults

  • December 1, 2024 – January 31, 2025
  • Need a break during the holiday season? Get one free child entry for every paid adult general admission in December and January.

Fall Gardens Series – Native Plants

  • Sunday December 8: 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • $10 for members and $15 for non-members
  • Learn how to landscape with plants native to the beautiful Mojave Desert. Springs Preserve horticultural experts share their knowledge about plants and how they adapt to our hot, dry climate.

Safari to the springs: birds

  • Saturdays and Sundays in November: 11 a.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • Explore the amazing world of birds and their incredible beaks. Learn about species native to southern Nevada and learn how different beak shapes help birds find food, build nests, and thrive in their habitats. Then, fly to the wonders of birds by going on a bird watching trip.

Conservation for children: rainbows

  • Saturdays and Sundays in November: 1 p.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • Discover the science behind this magnificent phenomenon with hands-on and creative activities that help you learn about light and the color spectrum.

Nature Exchange Badge Class: Biology

  • Saturdays and Sundays in November: 2 p.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • Immerse yourself in the microscopic world where each creature tells a story. Discover the building blocks of life: cells.

Springs Safari: plant and animal adaptations

  • Saturdays and Sundays in December: 11 a.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • On the safari, guests will look for plants and animals that use special tricks to survive the cold. Get ready for fun activities and a hands-on look at the incredible way life flourishes in the desert, even during the coolest season.

Conservation for children: snow

  • Saturdays and Sundays in December: 1 p.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • Dive into how snowflakes form, the science behind snowstorms, learn how snow plays an important role in helping replenish our water supply and support wildlife habitats, and discuss ways to protect the environment and preserve the beauty of winters.

Nature Exchange Badge Class: Chemistry

  • Saturdays and Sundays in December: 2 p.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • Prepare to marvel at the wonders of molecules while earning your chemistry badge.

Activity for children during toddler time

  • Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays: 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • Bring your little ones to the Springs Preserve for kid-friendly fun with a new theme every week! Recommended for ages 5 and under.

Water Works Museum

  • Thursday-Monday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • WaterWorks Museum is an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of water treatment and distribution in Southern Nevada. Discover the challenges and triumphs of traveling on the water.

Booming city 1905

  • Thursday-Monday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Free for members or included in general admission.
  • Step back in time at Boomtown 1905, a recreated cityscape of early Las Vegas. Explore the historical reconstructions of the original railroad depot, the Arizona Club, the Majestic Theater, the First State Bank, the Lincoln Hotel and the Las Vegas Mercantile. Explore interpretive, interactive exhibits and period decor to learn about Las Vegas in the early 1900s.

General admission for Nevada Residents with ID: $9.95 for adults

  • $4.95 for children aged 3 to 17

SPRING STORAGE HOURS

  • Springs Reserve is open Thursday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Nevada State Museum is open Thursday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Springs Café is open Thursday to Monday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Hours vary for classes and special events
