Brundleverse is expanding with a spin-off of The Fly

Enter the telepod and prepare to take off. The world and work of Seth Brundle should experience a revival, and Nanny Writer-director Nikyatu Jusu looks ready to flip the switch. By DeadlineJusu is reportedly directing a new film set in the ‘universe’ of David Cronenberg’s sci-fi classic The fly. Now, before we fall asleep to the bliss of body horror through the dulcet tones of Glenn Danzig’s laments, “The return of the fly, with Vincent Price“, we must clarify that Jusu’s film is a spin-off, not a direct sequel or remake.

So where does this leave us? Will it be a film about Brundle’s grandson, the child of The Fly IIby Martin Brundle, allowing for the perfect title, Grandson of the fly? We don’t know. We just don’t know!

Jusu became known through a series of short films, including Suicide in the suna stylish, satirical vampire short about a black day girl who can handle the sun thanks to the melanin in her skin. She has since led the Sundance breakout Nannya psychological horror film about a Senegalese woman loses her mind after getting a job as a nanny for Michelle Monaghan’s daughter. The film landed on Amazon, dooming it to modest obscurity on a merciless algorithm, just like the one in the works. Night of the Living Dead following. This film will follow The original by George A. Romero, 1968 and ignore the five other sequels directed by Romero, including Dawn And Day of the Dead. A Legacy sequel about Barbara’s now-adult daughter joining the family business of getting eaten by zombies? We hope not.

Nanny is currently streaming on Prime Video. But for a 17-minute glimpse of Jusu’s talents, Suicide in the sun is available below:
