PREVIEW: Oilers vs. Devils | Edmonton Oilers

With the game tied at two in the third period and the Oilers on the power play, Hyman beat two Calgary defenders to the net and received a saucer pass from Nugent-Hopkins before avoiding the poke-check from Dan Vladar, pushing away his second goal in as many games against the goalie’s blocker with 10:10 left in the third period.

Hyman also added an assist on Jeff Skinner’s first-period goal, and Edmonton’s top six forwards have all managed to score points over the past two games, including Vasily Podkolzin who had another assist on Sunday.

“It gives a lot of opportunities for other guys to step up and bring their game,” Skinner said. “(McDavid’s) is such an incredible player, obviously, so losing him hurts. But being able to find ways to win games, even if he’s not in the lineup, is also a big confidence boost for the group we just know it’s a team game You can still win games when people are out, and that involves everyone winning a game.

Defending their lead, the Oilers eliminated a high-sticking penalty from Arvidsson and the rest of regulation with a strong commitment to team defense. Stuart Skinner finished the final period with 12 saves, and Adam Henrique made a vital late block as Calgary pressed for the equalizer with its empty net.

“It was fantastic, especially to be able to get the win,” Skinner said. “Obviously they put a lot of pressure on us at the end, and Rico made a massive block to make it easier for me.”
