There’s never been a better year to host the family Thanksgiving feast. Retailers across the country – from Target to Walmart and more – are offering Thanksgiving meal packages in droves, each trying to prove they can offer the best value to customers at a time when prices of groceries have apparently increased more than incomes. Lidl’s Thanksgiving meal costs just $4.50 per person and will be available until November 27.

With this bundle offer, Lidl competes with several other widely publicized meal offers. Walmart Thanksgiving Meal feeds up to eight people at a cost of about $7 per person, although some additional items are included in this package, like corn muffins and a ready-to-eat pecan pie. Target Thanksgiving Mealmeanwhile, is designed to serve four people for less than $20, compared to $25 the previous year.

The closest comparison to Lidl in the US, Aldihovers around Lidl’s price per person, with a meal for 10 costing $47. The only difference between the two menus is that Aldi includes cranberry sauce ingredients, which accounts for the extra $2.

Lidl’s Thanksgiving meal isn’t just a way to showcase seasonal value: The discount retailer is also in the midst of a relaunch of the brand in the United States. The store was founded in Germany in 1932 and the chain has a presence throughout Europe, but has only been in the United States since 2017. With almost all of Lidl’s U.S. locations located along the East Coast , Rampoldt said the brand is currently focused on growth. three main markets: Atlanta, New York and the District of Columbia. However, he noted that Lidl is “still exploring expansion opportunities” that could bring the discount retailer into more states.

For those who do not live near a Lidlthink of it as Trader Joe’s, but better. It creates the authentic experience of wandering through a European market, with quality baked goods and unknown brands to discover. Lidl, like Aldi, has big fans among its customer base, and although Lidl currently has no definitive plans for westward expansion, its desire to expand into selected markets hints at an ambition that could bring a location in your own backyard for years to come.
